Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune Tests Positive for COVID-19

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has tested positive for COVID-19 and is receiving treatment in a German hospital, his office announced last Nov. 3.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has tested positive for COVID-19 and is receiving treatment in a German hospital, his office announced last Nov. 3.

The 74-year-old president “continues to receive a treatment in a specialized German hospital after catching the COVID-19 illness,” his office said in a statement.

“The medical team is reassured that the president is responding to treatment and gradually recovering,” the statement also said.

Algerians officials said that Tebboune was transferred from a hospital in Algiers to Germany last Oct. 28 “on the recommendation of medical staff,” days after going into self-quarantine amid reports of government officials contracting the virus.

According to data from John Hopkins University, Algeria recently reported 302 new cases, bringing the total amount of cases nationwide to 58,574.
