Machete-Wielding Man Alarms Locals, Barricades Himself in Building

A man wielding a machete reportedly roamed around the Pére-Lachaise metro station and barricaded himself on a building on the eleventh arrondissement.

A man wielding a machete reportedly roamed around the Pére-Lachaise metro station and barricaded himself on a building on the eleventh arrondissement.

According to eyewitness reports, the suspect was seen inside a metro station at around 10:30 am GMT and terrified commuters. 

The local police said the suspect took refuge in a building nearby, believed to be a hotel. 

Police officers rushed to the area and cordoned off the perimeter after informing residents and business owners to remain indoors. 

By 11:30 am, police managed to arrest the suspect and reported that no one was hurt during the apprehension.  

It is still unknown what the motives of the suspect are and his identity.

France is is currently on high alert after recent terror attacks and backlash from Islamic countries,

The incident also occurred just hours after the fatal shooting in Vienna which heightened fears of more terror attacks.
