Chihuahua state governor Javier Corral said on Sunday during a press conference that members of one of the cartels that operate in Ciudad Juarez killed famous journalist Arturo Alba Medina in the border city, representing the sixth journalist to have been murdered this year in the country.

Chihuahua state governor Javier Corral said on Sunday during a press conference that members of one of the cartels that operate in Ciudad Juarez killed famous journalist Arturo Alba Medina in the border city, representing the sixth journalist to have been murdered this year in the country.

Corral told local reporters that the “cowardly murder” or Alba Medina needs to be “fully condemned by everyone,” pointing out that he already told prosecutors to conduct a full investigation into the matter and to ensure the killers are punished. “Justice will be done,” the governor said.

According to media watchdog Reporters Without Borders, the 49-year-old journalist and television host was killed a couple of minutes after the end of his show, in which he was criticizing the way drug cartels control Ciudad Juarez.

More than 100 reporters and other media workers have been murdered in Mexico since the year 2000. In early August, another journalist was killed in the state of Guerrero along with a police officer.
