Three people were killed in a knife attack in Nice, France on Thursday.

According to the police, the attack took place at the Basilica of Notre Dame de l’Assumption, a Catholic church.

Turkey stands with the French community against violence and terrorism, said the ministry.

They extended their condolences to the families of the victims and wished a quick recovery for those who were wounded.

“Violence and terror, especially if they take place in a place of worship, cannot be associated with any religious or moral norm,” Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay, the deputy chairman of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, said in a statement. “I hereby repeat our call to unite against extremism.”

The attack came amid condemnations and protests from the Muslim world over President Emmanuel Macron’s defense of blasphemous cartoons, and on the criticism of “Islamist separatism.”
