Police officers of the Kukmorsky District of Russia’s Tatarstan have sjot and killed a teenage suspect who threw molotov cocktails at police vehicles and attacked one of the officers with a knife.
Russian media named the 16-year-old attacker as Vitaly Antopov and said he had shouted ‘”Allahu Akbar” and called police ‘infidels’ during his assault.
According to the initial police report, an officer noticed fire and shattered glass at the parking lot of the station when he saw Antopov throwing another Molotov in his direction before fleeing.
After being pursued, Antopov allegedly drew a knife and attacked one of the apprehending officers.
The young man did not react to repeated demands to stop the unlawful acts. He actively resisted arrest, causing several knife wounds to one of the policemen,” said the Kukmor police.
The Kukmor police said that an officer had fired warning shots into the air before being forced to open fire and that Antopov had died of his wounds before medics could arrive on the scene.
Russia’s Investigative Committee stated that it was treating the incident as an attempted act of terrorism.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that he believed that the attack had no connection with the recent knife attacks in France and its consulates.
“The events in France are events in France. Here we have one of the crimes, absolutely a criminal offense. What connection is there?” said Peskov.
