Canadian Class-Action Suit Against Facebook Alleges Misuse of Personal Information

Two Facebook users, Saul Benary and Karma Holoboff, are seeking damages on behalf of Canadians whose personal data may have been used inappropriately for political gain.

Two Facebook users, Saul Benary and Karma Holoboff, are seeking damages on behalf of Canadians whose personal data may have been used inappropriately for political gain.

Benary and Holoboff have filed the proposed class-action lawsuit to demand Facebook to improve its security practices in order to protect the user’s sensitive information and to comply with federal privacy law.

According to the commissioners, the application which was known  at one point as “This is Your Digital Life,” urged users to complete a personality quiz that has collected  data about the people who installed the application as well as personal information about their Facebook friends.

The lawsuit  also seeks $1,000 for each of the 622,000 Canadians whose information was shared with others through a digital application.

Facebook has not responded yet in court regarding the class-action application.
