Azerbaijan Reports 21 Civilian Casualties from Alleged Armenian Missile Attack

Azerbaijan claimed that 21 civilians were killed during missile attacks by Armenian forces in the city center of the Barda region.

The Barda General Prosecutor’s Office also reported that 70 people were also injured by the attack.

“Following missile attacks to Tartar, armed forces of Armenia firing rockets to Barda. No lessons learned from yesterday’s killing of civilians with cluster weapons. Armenia must end it’s military occupation and #WarCrimes,” said Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the Azerbaijani president.

According to Azerbaijan authorities, the Armenian armed forces used Russian Smerch missiles which are cluster bombs and are prohibited in war. 

The alleged attack came just days after the two sides agreed to a ceasefire that was brokered in Washington on Sunday.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry added that the Armenian army reportedly opened fire on the cities of Goranboy, Tartar, and Barda with cannonballs and missiles which left four civilians dead the day before.

Armenia however denied launching the attacks and accused Azerbaijan of shelling their positions.in Stepanakert.
