Senior Women for Climate Protection Sue Swiss Government Over Climate Change at European Court

Senior Women for Climate Protection have sued the Swiss government at Europe’s top rights court for failing to protect them from the increasingly intense heat waves.

Senior Women for Climate Protection have sued the Swiss government at Europe’s top rights court for failing to protect them from the increasingly intense heat waves.

“Our demand for the Swiss government is simple: protect our health in the face of the climate crisis,” the group’s joint president, Rosmarie Wydler-Walti, said in a statement.

The group of retired Swiss women wants the government to increase their endeavors to curb planet-heating emissions in Switzerland, where global warming is about twice as fast the global average.

The group’s lawsuit is one of the thousands that were filed against companies and governments worldwide in the past few years with mixed results, however, it is only the second complaint that has reached the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
