Colombian Security Forces Kill Terrorist ELN Leader

Colombian President Ivan Duque announced on Monday morning that the country’s security forces have killed the main commander of Marxist terrorist group ELN in the coastal Pacific province of Choco in a military operation.

Colombian President Ivan Duque announced on Monday morning that the country’s security forces have killed the main commander of Marxist terrorist group ELN in the coastal Pacific province of Choco in a military operation.

During a press conference in capital Bogota, President Duque told local reporters that the security forces killed the rebel commander Andres Felipe Banegas Londoño, also known by his nom de guerre Uriel.

The Colombian president said that Uriel was responsible for kidnappings, drug-trafficking, forced recruitment of minors and the murders of human rights activists and members of the security forces.

“The terrorist Andres Felipe Vanegas Londono, who used the alias Uriel, has been downed. This criminal was killed in a meticulous operation of shared intelligence by the national army of Colombia and the national police,” President Duque said.

The terrorist group, which has about 2,000 fighters, began peace negotiations with the previous government, but negotiations fell apart after a car bombing in Bogotá and President Duque demanded that the guerrillas release all its hostages.
