Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez revealed on Friday morning during a televised speech in the Moncloa Palace in Madrid that the “real number of COVID-19 infections in the country is beyond 3 million.”

Prime Minister Sanchez said that despite the numerous differences between the first and second wave of the virus, his government “will take the proper measures in order to guarantee everyone’s security and restore our economy as soon as possible. However, it is important to say that the current situation is extremely serious.”

He also called on people to limit social contacts and pointed out that regional governments will begin “intensifying measures” to curb the contagion, while trying to limit economic pain and individual restrictions as much as possible.

“The coming months are going to be tough, very tough. We want to avoid another lockdown where everyone is forced to stay home, and for that to occur, everyone must be extremely disciplined,” the Prime Minister said.

“Spain’s infection rate is 348 cases per 100,000 people and we should bring that down to 25 cases. We have a lot of work to do,” he added.
