Trump’s Envoy Secretly Negotiated Maduro’s Exit with Venezuelan Regime’s Top Official

The former acting US Director of National Intelligence and ambassador to Germany under the Trump administration Richard Grenell, secretly met with a top official of the Venezuelan regime in Mexico City last month to negotiate the ousting of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.

Four members of the Trump administration who refused to reveal their identities told the media outlet that Grenell met with Venezuelan regime’s Communications Minister Jorge Rodriguez in Mexico’s capital. 

Two of the sources pointed out that the US State Department including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo weren’t informed about the trip to Mexico and the meeting between Grenell and Rodriguez.

Officials from the Trump administration gave conflicting accounts on whether the trip to meet with the Venezuelan top official was authorized, Trump’s national security advisor Robert O’Brien signed off on it with the president’s permission.
