Saad Hariri Wins Parliament Support to Become Lebanon’s New Prime Minister

Veteran politician Saad Hariri has won the support of the majority of the Lebanese parliament’s members to be appointed as the new prime minister of the Middle East nation.

Veteran politician Saad Hariri has won the support of the majority of the Lebanese parliament’s members to be appointed as the new prime minister of the Middle East nation.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun announced the decision after holding consultations with the legislators of the parliamentary government.

Hariri would be facing heavy tasks in forming a new government that would tackle the worst crisis that Lebanon has been facing due to the prevalent pandemic outbreak and the deadly explosion in Beirut’s port in August.

Hariri has already served as the premier of the country from December 2016 through January 2020, and previously held the top post between 2009 and 2011.

Hariri turned in his resignation in October 2019 amid the nationwide protests that broke out during that time because of an alleged rampant corruption.

Despite Hariri’s decision to leave the post, Aoun asked him to stay until the parliament designated Hassan Diab to be his replacement in January 2020.
