Stock Market Closes Trading Session with Gains

The US stock market jumped on growing optimism that negotiations among US lawmakers are progressing with respect to a US stimulus package.

On Tuesday, the Dow Jones closed up 113.37 points, or 0.4 percent, to 28,308.79, while the S&P 500 ended 16.2 points higher, or 0.47 percent, to 3,443.12 and the Nasdaq 100 closed 37.51 points higher, or 0.33 percent, to 11,516.49.

In Asia, the HSI jumped 0.11 percent or 27.28 points, while Japan’s NIKKEI fell 0.44 percent or 104.09 points and China’s SHANGHAI jumped 0.47 percent or 15.44 points. In European markets, the STOXX fell 0.63 percent or 18.21 points, and the FTSE jumped 0.08 percent or 4.57 points.

In commodities, oil prices fell 0.26 percent to be at $41,59 per barrel, while natural gas prices fell 0.41 percent to be at $2,90 per BTU.

Meanwhile, platinum prices jumped 0.03 percent to be at $877,60 per ounce, while copper prices fell 0.14 percent to be at $3,14 per pound. Also, gold prices fell 0.02 percent to be at $1,915 per ounce and silver prices fell 0.32 percent to be at $24,90 per ounce.

In currencies, the Euro fell 0.5060 percent to be at $0,8455 per US dollar, while the Yen jumped 0.0285 percent or 0.0300 points and the Sterling jumped 0.1425 percent to be at $0,7732 per US dollar.
