A deepfake bot found on the Telegram messenger app has victimized tens of thousands of women and created fake nude images of them that have been posted publicly online.

With the bot, users can anonymously submit a photo of a clothed woman and receive an altered version with the clothing removed.

Intelligence company Sensity said in their report that the latest version of the bot is an evolution of the infamous DeepNude bot which emerged in 2019.

According to Sensity, 104,852 women have been targeted and had their deepfaked nude images shared publicly as of the end of July 2020 which grew by 198% in the last 3 months.

Sensity added that they discovered a new web page that advertises the bot showed the statistics on the number of people targeted by the bot.

According to the site, more than 680.000 users have already been targeted while self-reporting users indicated that 70% of targets are private individuals whose photos are either taken from their social media accounts.

Most of the 101,080 members of the bot and its affiliated channels have a 70%  demographic coming from Russia and ex-USSR countries.

The bot was widely advertised in Russia’s social media platform VK but was recently taken down.

Sensity said that all sensitive data discovered during their investigation has been disclosed with Telegram, VK, and relevant law enforcement authorities.

Neither Telegram nor VK has made any statements regarding the public disclosure of the bot as of the moment.
